Gymnasts take third at home invite
The Hudson gymnasts hosted their annual Raider Invitational Saturday at Willow River Elementary School and came away with a third place finish in the seven-team tournament.
River Falls won the team title with a total score of 131.725 and Tartan (Minn.) was second with 131 while Hudson placed third with 128.05. Superior finished fourth with 121.025 followed by Red Wing with 120.025, Grantsburg with 110.925 and Menomonie with 97.6.
Junior McKenna Daulton earned top-five finishes in three individual events and took fifth in the all-around with a total score of 33.15.
Daulton's highest score of the day came in the vault where she posted a 9.05 to place fifth. She also placed fifth in the floor exercise with an 8.65 and on the balance beam with an 8.425. She scored 7.025 on the uneven bars to bring her al-around total to 33.15.
Freshman Maddie Nelson earned the Raiders' highest score on the uneven bars, finishing seventh with an 8.175, while junior Maddy Rohde and freshman Maddi Wisse each scored 7.6.
Rohde and senior Brooke Miller each scored 8.4 in the vault while Nelson had an 8.35 and junior Olivia Dunlap added an 8.05.
Freshman Gabby Hughes placed eighth on the balance beam with a score of 8.0 while Dunlap posted a 7.625 and Miller had a 7.35.
In the floor exercise, Nelson contributed a seventh place score of 8.175 and Miller scored 7.7 while Wisse had a 7.525 and freshman Amira Tobasi scored 7.4.
Nelson earned a top-ten finish in the final all-around standings, placing eighth with a total of 31.1.
The Raider junior varsity also fared well Saturday, finishing second in the five-team JV competition with a team score of 108.25.
Hughes and Rohde took the top two spots in the floor exercise with scores of 8.2 and 7.7, respectively, while Tobasi placed first on the balance beam with a 7.5. Dunlap was second on the uneven bars with a 7.6 and Wisse finished third in the vault with an 8.4.
Claire VanValkenburg was the top Raider all-around finisher, placing second with a total of 26.75.
The Raiders will make up a dual meet at River Falls that was originally scheduled for Jan. 22 this Thursday, Jan. 31, and host Eau Claire in the final dual meet of the season Tuesday, Feb. 5, before preparing for the Big Rivers Conference Tournament Saturday, Feb. 16, in Chippewa Falls.
