Haugen convicted in Hudson parent group theft
A former treasurer of a Willow River Elementary school parent group was convicted in a theft case Wednesday afternoon Dec. 19.
Nichole R. Haugen, 30, pleaded no contest to multiple counts of theft in a business setting before Judge Howard W. Cameron. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail, probation for three years, 120 hours of community service and fined $1,215.
In addition, Haugen was ordered to pay $22,874 restitution to the Willow River Parent Group.
Haugen was treasurer of the non-profit organization and one of only two officers who had access to the group's checking account.
The criminal complaint said an officer of organization contacted police when thousands of dollars appeared to be missing. Checks had been negotiated in the off season when there was no school activity and one was written to a wireless company for Haugen's personal use.
