HHS gets first dean of students

Kevin Moore is the new Dean of Students at Hudson High School. He replaces former associate principal Denny Toll who resigned last month.

Moore comes to Hudson from the Wisconsin School District of Adams-Friendship where he has 10 years of experience as a grade 9-12 chemistry teacher. With a master's degree in education from UW-Superior and principal licensure, Moore had responsibility for building operations and student discipline in the absence of the Adams-Friendship High School principal and associate principal.

According to information from the Hudson School District, his other leadership experiences includes professional staff development, work with freshman transition and upperclass mentoring, peer evaluation and a professional guidance program for new teachers.

Moore has presented at the last two AWSA associate principals' conferences.He was selected for the 2009 Summer Institute in Physics at the University of Washington, Seattle. In 2008, he was given the Community Service Award by the Adams-Friendship High School Student Council.

In addition to his MEd in school administration, Moore has a BS from UW-LaCrosse in chemistry and pre-medicine and has done graduate coursework at Georgia Tech in chemistry, engineering, and biology; graduate coursework from UW-Stevens Point in teaching chemistry; and a Nanoscience Summer Teacher Fellowship at UW-Madison.

Moore has been a volunteer for several youth activities and sports programs. He has coached both middle and high school basketball and football for the past nine years.

HHS Principal Laura Love said in a press release of the school district, "We are extremely pleased to have Kevin Moore on board as our Dean of Students. People who know Kevin's work state that he has been an outstanding classroom teacher and role model for students and peers. He is a systems thinker and will fit perfectly with our office team to balance student management issues with student leadership possibilities for the sake of every student and staff member. We look forward to having Kevin and his family join the Hudson area community."

In the same release Moore is quoted as saying,"Hudson School District is a school that is looking at the current and future needs of the students and community, and I look forward to being a part of that process....I am here to serve the needs of the students, teachers and parents of Hudson High School. I am a collaborative leader and educator and I am motivated to help all students achieve. I plan to involve parents in the issues that the students are facing and will work with parents to best meet the needs of the student."

Moore began his new job on Monday.
