Hudson High School alum Mike Reneau will be racing his second Olympic Marathon Trials this Saturday, Jan. 14, in Houston, Texas.

The race will feature 120 of the United States' best distance runners -- all vying for the opportunity to represent Team USA at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Reneau will be racing in his second Olympic Marathon Trials after placing 32nd in his first attempt in New York City in 2007 while competing for the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project. Since then, he was the first American finisher and seventh overall at the 2008 Bank of America Chicago Marathon and he has placed in the top-ten at the USA Marathon Championships twice -- ninth in 2009 and sixth in 2010. His personal best at the marathon distance is 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 20 seconds.

The 1996 Hudson High School graduate was a two-time conference champion in wrestling and was first-team all-conference twice in cross country while competing for the Raiders.

After a fifth place finish at the WIAA State Wrestling meet and a 41-2 senior campaign, Reneau matriculated to the University of Wyoming where he continued to wrestle for the Cowboys squad. He eventually left the wrestling team and transferred to finish studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

It wasn't until his final semester at Madison that he returned to his running roots, after signing up for a marathon training class and completing his first marathon, the 2004 Mad City Marathon. He placed third in 2:36. Within two years he would qualify for his first Olympic Marathon Trials at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth.

Currently a resident of St. Paul, Reneau will be representing the Twin Cities Track Club and Brooks Sports. The former is an organization that he is resurrecting in the Twin Cities that was the club his father represented in the 1968 Olympic Marathon Trials. Mike and father, Jeff Reneau, are the first father/son pair to have both competed in the Olympic Marathon Trials.
