House fire victim identified
The St. Croix County Sheriff's department has identified the victim in a rural Somerset house fire late Friday.
Thomas H. Cook, 70, was found dead in his house at 2107 County Rd. I. A deputy was dispatched at 11:59 p.m., Oct. 5. A Somerset fire crew was on hand and the structure was fully engulfed in flames with massive smoke surrounding the area, the sheriff's report said.
The official cause of the fire has not been determined but Chief Deputy Scott Knudson said a space heater was suspected. He was waiting on a medical examiner's report to determine the Cook's cause death Monday morning.
The other person in the house, Linda J. Cook, 62, escaped the fire and was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. She has since been released, Knudson said.
