The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office said Sheldon D. Weiss, 46, New Richmond, died at the scene of a two-car collision on County Road A just north of the intersection with County Rd. U at 4:30 a.m. Jan. 13.

A 1994 Ford Mustang driven by Casey L. Wolff, 21, Somerset, was traveling south on County Road A and Weiss was driving a Chevrolet Aveo northbound when the two vehicles collided head-on and burst into flames, the sheriff said.

Wolf was injured in the accident and taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The county recorded its first fatality early New Year's Day when John Denesen, 26, North Branch, Minn., was killed in a crash in Hudson. There were 10 deaths on county roadways in 2006.
