In a big upset, current School Board President Barb Van Loenen was eliminated from the April 3 election, finishing seventh in Tuesday's primary. Six of seven candidates survived Tuesday's school board primary and will run for three seats on April 3, but President Van Loenen was the lowest voter getter, garnering 419 votes.

Van Loenen was one of three incumbents running in the primary against four newcomers. Only incumbent Tom Holland finished in the top three; incumbent Brian Bell finished sixth, just ahead of Van Loenen with 441 votes.

Challenger Liz Bruch had the most votes with 679, followed closely by Sandy Gehrke with 647. Holland was third with 529, followed by Cathy Leaf with 520, John Burtis with 498 and Bell with 441.

The top six finishers will be on the ballot April 3 and three of the six will be elected to the board of education during the spring election.
