Hudson fire chief declares ban on outdoor burning
Hudson Fire Chief Jim Frye has ordered a ban on outdoor burning for three municipalities served by the Hudson Fire Department - the towns of Hudson and Troy, and the village of North Hudson.
Outdoor burning is always prohibited in the city of Hudson, except for recreational fires in fire pits. Fire said recreational fires will continue to be allowed in the city, at this point.
A warning from the National Weather Service about a high danger of wildfires prompted the ban. The Weather Service is predicting low dew points and high winds and temperatures for Thursday, Aug. 30.
Frye said the ban will remain in effect "until we get a decent amount of precipitation."
The area is suffering from a lack of rainfall, he said.
"Even the trees are stressed. They are dropping their leaves."
