For the fifth consecutive year, Hudson High School students taking the ACT college entrance examination scored well above the state average in all tested areas and in their overall score.


The scores were:

--English, Hudson 22.6, statewide, 21.5

--Math, Hudson 24.1, statewide, 22.

--Reading, Hudson, 24, statewide, 22.1

--Science, 22.9, statewide, 22.1

--Composite score, Hudson, 23.5, statewide, 22.1

The national composite score was 21.1.

According to information gathered by ACT from postsecondary institutions nationwide, HHS scores say students are ready for college, with more than 50 percent able to obtain a B or higher and 75 percent able to earn a C or higher.

HHS students taking the test number 275, about 65.4 percent of those eligible.

In comparison with area schools, Hudson led with a 23.5 followed by River Falls, 23.4, then New Richmond, 23.3; St. Croix Central, 21.9; Somerset, 21.7; and Baldwin-Woodville, 21.4.

St. Croix Central, Somerset and Baldwin-Woodville were below the state average.

In the Big Rivers athletic conference, Hudson and River Falls were ranked 1-2 on the ACT, followed by Eau Claire, 23.3; Chippewa Falls, 23.0; Rice Lake, 22.2; and Menomonie, 21.8.

Eau Claire's scores, a combination of its two public high schools, had a very low participation rate of just over 50 percent. Menomonie's composite ACT score was below the state average.
