Dustan Charles Warren, 27, 1007 Lincoln Lane, appeared before Judge Edward F. Vlack in St. Croix County District Court last Thursday on felony charges of sexual assault, battery, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment and misdemeanor bail jumping.

A hate crime enhancer had been added to the charges in the amended criminal complaint filed since Warren made an initial appearance Dec. 8, stating that he selected his victim because of her alleged sexual orientation. The enhancer can add an additional $5,000 in fines and five years imprisonment to the maximum penalty.

An arraignment hearing was set for Thursday at 4 p.m. In the meantime, Warren has been ordered to post a $100,000 cash bail and remains in jail.

The criminal complaint said Warren attempted to have sex with a 35-year-old woman after a party Nov. 26 at a Hudson residence. The woman told Warren she was a lesbian and not interested in sex with him.

After other guests left the party, he punched her in the face, threatened to kill and rape her at knifepoint.

The woman testified to the allegations during the Dec. 11 preliminary hearing.

Warren told investigators that he was not at the woman's residence but drunk and lost in the woods in Bayport, Minn., until 3 a.m. the day of the party.
