Hudson Rod and Gun Club schedules youth, women's classes
A certified Wisconsin Hunter Education course will be held at the Hudson Rod & Gun Club for those youth interested in firearm safety, hunting and recreational shooting. Registration for the class is at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at the Gun Club located off Krattley Lane in North Hudson. This is the only night for registration.
Classes are held every Thursday, beginning on July 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with one Saturday, July 28, as a mandatory attendance Range Day. All students are now required by the Wisconsin DNR to have a customer ID number by the second class in order to graduate. This number can be obtained by calling the DNR Customer Service at (888) 936-7463 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.
There is no pre-registration and both the student and parent must attend registration to complete the necessary forms. This registration should last about one and one-half hours in order to provide course information. Class size will be limited to 50 students, first come, first registered. There is a $10 non-refundable fee per student for the class, due at registration.
Attendance requirements must be met for the student to be certified. There is no maximum age for the course although it is designed primarily for young people. Although certification can be used for a Concealed Carry Permit, the class does not have any material or training specific to handguns and concealed carry. Wisconsin law specifies that all people born on or after January 1, 1973, must successfully complete a recognized hunter education program to obtain a hunting license.
A firearm, preferably a .22 cal. rimfire rifle in good working condition, is required for all students after registration. No ammunition allowed.
All instructors are DNR Certified. For more information only, contact Jane George, (715) 386-8159 or Peter Dold, (715) 386-6522 after 6 p.m.
