Hudson School District offers lifeguard, water safety training
Hudson School District is holding lifeguard training and water safety instruction. Completing these courses does not guarantee jobs as lifeguards or as instructors in the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Registration forms can be found online at www.hudson.k12.wi.us or at Learning Services at the Administration Service Building at 644 Brakke Drive. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration deadline is Monday, April 1.
Lifeguard training is April 6, 7, 13, 14 -- eight hours each day -- from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (time subject to change). Participants must be 15 by April 14. Proof of age required for registration. Pre-test skills include the ability to tread water for two minutes using legs only, with arms crossed across the chest; swim 500 yards continuously using each of the following strokes for at least 100 yards: crawl, breaststroke, and sidestroke, the stroke(s) used for remaining 200 yards are the participants' choice; submerge to minimum depth of seven feet, retrieve a 10 pound object and return to the surface.
The fee for Hudson residents is $125 which includes materials. The fee is $175 for non-Hudson residents.
Water Safety Instructor training is April 27, 28, May 4, 5 -- eight hours each day - from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (time subject to change). Participants 16 by May 5. Proof of age required for registration. Course requirements include the ability to swim 500 yards continually using the front crawl and to perform all Level IV strokes.
For Hudson residents, the fee is $185 which includes materials. Non-residents are $235.
To become certified, participants must attend all four days of instruction for each class. This is the only time these classes will be offered this season.
