Hudson swimmers host conference championships Saturday
If the success of the Hudson girls' swimming and diving team so far this season is any indication, the Raiders are in for quite a postseason.
That postseason run begins this Saturday, Oct. 27 when Hudson hosts the Big Rivers Conference Meet at the middle school pool beginning at 10 a.m. The Raiders capped the regular season with 103-75 victory over Eau Claire North last Tuesday to finish 5-1 in BRC duals, 8-1 overall.
"The girls are gearing up for a fantastic BRC meet this weekend," head coach Kelly Hackbarth said after her team posted two new school records last week.
Sophomore Erika Guenther set a new school mark in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.27 seconds, leading a one-two-three Raider sweep in the event. Freshman Emmie Reynolds was second in 26.83 seconds and junior Ellie Kiecker took third in 27.41.
Sophomore Devin Cicha also set a new school mark by winning the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 7.94 seconds. Guenther was second in 5:27.56 while junior Abby Duerst finished third in 5:40.72.
The Raiders also swept the top three spots in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and diving events.
In the 100 free, Reynolds placed first in 58.47 seconds, junior Hannah Manley was second in 1:00.9 and Kiecker finished third in 1:01.11. In the 200 free, Duerst won in 2:07.89, senior Kayla Lorenz was second in 2:09.47, and senior Lindsey Bedford took third in 2:10.32.
Senior Gina Coulter won the diving competition with a score of 180.25 while senior Kiah Tulibaski was second with 166.85 and freshman Maddie Nelson was third with 155.35.
Cicha added a first place time of 2:13.07 seconds in the 200 individual medley, while Guenther, sophomore Natalie Wood, Cicha and Reynolds took first in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.86, and senior Nicole Berdusco, Duerst, Kiecker and Reynolds won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.57.
