Hudson swimmers post top-ten time at state

Hudson came home with one top ten finish from the 89th annual WIAA Swimming and Diving Championships last Saturday in Madison as the Raiders' 200 yard freestyle team tied for ninth place with a time of 1 minute, 30.06 seconds.

Juniors August Jorgensen, Miles Townsend, Sawyer Arndt and Willie Skinner came in one-hundredth of a second faster than the team from Appleton North/East to tie Sheboygan South for ninth place. Madison Memorial won the race with a time of 1:25.29.

The same four Raiders also finished 19th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:21.55. Madison Memorial took first with a state record time of 3:04.89.

Skinner and Arndt also competed in a pair of individual events at the state meet. Skinner finished 18th in the 100 freestyle relay in 48.96 seconds and was 23rd in the 50 freestyle in 22.63 seconds, while Arndt placed 23rd in the 200 free in 1:48.72 and 23rd in the 500 free in 4:58.19.

A total of four new state records were set at the meet, including the 100 yard breaststroke, where Eau Claire Alliance's Alex DeLakis became just the third swimmer in the 89-year history of the state meet to win the same event four straight years. DeLakis bested the old mark by over a second, winning with a time of 54.69 seconds.

Madison Memorial won the team title with a total of 316 points. Hudson finished 29th out of 41 teams represented with 16 points. Eau Claire Alliance finished third with 191.
