Hudson swimmers shine in multiple meets

The summer long course season is busy for Hudson Area Swim Association (HASA) swimmers, as they participate in multiple swim meets in the Twin Cities area. Nine HASA athletes recently competed in the Star A Summer Classic at the Highland Park outdoor pool in St. Paul. This was the first long course meters meet for HASA during the 2013 season.

HASA was represented by Sven Becker, Cale Blinkman, Maria Blinkman, Shane Blinkman, Sydney Glampe, Spencer Whyte and Kiara Xanthos. Head coach Bob Young and assistant coach Jennifer Ridge joined their swimmers by competing in the meet as well.

HASA swimmers posted 19 personal best swims and set an impressive 15 team records at the meet.

Xanthos set team records in the girls 8-and-under age group in the 50 meter freestyle (39.10 seconds), 50 meter breaststroke (52.10 seconds) and 50 meter butterfly (52.12 seconds).

For the boys, Becker captured records in the 8-and-under age group in the 100 meter freestyle (1 minute, 27.91 seconds) and 50 meter butterfly (47.60 seconds).

Cale Blinkman set the boys' 11-12 age group record in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:14.96.

Shane Blinkman set seven team records in the boys' 11-12 age group, including the 50 meter freestyle (27.10), 100 meter freestyle (59.50), 200 meter freestyle (2:12.75), 400 meter freestyle (4:51.38), 50 meter breaststroke (34.93), 50 meter butterfly (30.45), 100 meter butterfly (1:09.61), and 200 meter individual medley (2:27.13).

Whyte set the boys' 17-18 age group team record in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 25.59 seconds.

Among other highlights, Maria Blinkman posted personal best times in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke, while Glampe took tenth place in the 400 meter freestyle.

Just three days later, at another meet in Oakdale, 15 HASA swimmers competed in the Omni Summer Pre C Finals. HASA swimmers combined to post 27 personal best swims.

Grace Schmidt achieved her first "B" qualifying time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:37.15. This time qualifies her to swim at the Minnesota Regional Championships in Winona.

New "C" qualifying times were achieved by Faith Eilertson (100 breaststroke), Justin Hagen (50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly), Hugh Hanlon (100 freestyle), Otto Hanlon (50 freestyle), Laura Lane (100 butterfly, 50 breaststroke, 200 freestyle), Morgan Moulton (100 backstroke), Hannah Ousdigian (50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke), and Logan Reed (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke).

Swimmers achieving personal best times in all of their events included Anna Arthur, Hugh Hanlon, Otto Hanlon, Lane and Madeline Olson. This was the first HASA meet for Ethan Woodman, who established new times in the 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle, with fourth and seventh place finishes, respectively.
