Hudson Track: Boys claim AA Invite title by 1/2 point
On a day that saw 22 meet records either tied or broken, the Raider boys got a second place finish in the final event of the day -- the 4x400 meter relay -- to leapfrog three teams in the final standings and win the team title by a half-point over River Falls at the All-American Invitational last Saturday, April 6 at UW-River Falls' Knowles Fieldhouse.
Ryan Schramm posted a time of 50.9 seconds on his leg of the 4x400 to team up with Sam Entenza, Alex Beyer and Ryan Widmyer for a second place time of 3 minutes, 36.46 seconds. River Falls was first with 3:35.2, but the eight points earned gave the Raiders a final team total of 74 while River Falls finished second in the 17-team field with 73.5.
"The meet on Saturday was awesome," coach Gerry Uchytil said. "Our guys stepped up at critical times. All across the board, in the throws and sprints and the distance events and in the pole vault, guys competed hard. It was very fun. The teams there were some of the best in Minnesota and Wisconsin so we're are happy to be making progress."
Senior Bryan Caffin posted the only first place finish for the Raiders -- winning the shot put with a throw of 54-feet, 8-inches, but Hudson's depth in 10 events, including multiple place winners in three different events, including the shot put where junior Jared Johnson turned in a fourth place throw of 48-10.75.
The Raiders will open the outdoor season, weather permitting, this Friday, April 12, with the Hudson True Team Invitational at Newton Field beginning at 4 p.m.
