Hudson track teams off to hot start at 17-team meet
The Raider track and field teams didn't let the lingering winter weather prevent them from getting off to a hot start last week.
Both the boys and girls team took first place at the 17-team Blue Devil Invitational inside Johnson Fieldhouse on the campus of UW-Stout Friday.
The Raider boys posted four first place finishes on their way to a team score of 106.5 while Hudson's girls had three individual champions to claim first with a score of 103. Menomonie took second in the boys' competition with 75 while Eau Claire Memorial's girls finished with a second place score of 71.
Hudson's boys swept the top two spots in the shot put with senior Bryan Caffin throwing a winning 52-feet, 5-inches and junior Jared Johnson placing second with 48-2.5.
The Raiders got a boost in the field events from sophomore John Uchytil, who won the pole vault by clearing 13-feet.
The boys also received first place efforts from Wade Malecha in the 55 meter hurdles, with a time of 8.61 seconds, and the 4x200 meter relay team, which posted a time of 1 minute, 37.58 seconds.
The Raider girls' individual titles came from freshman Miranda Miller in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:33.01, junior Erin Wetzstein in the 3200 meter run in 12:00.55, and junior Katy Fox in the triple jump with a distance of 31-11.
The Raiders return to Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie for the Northern Badger Classic this Saturday, March 23, beginning at 4 p.m.
