Hudson twin regional track champs
Both the Hudson boys and girls won WIAA regional track and field championships at the regional meet Tuesday evening in River Falls.
The Raider girls claimed six regional titles while the boys captured five. The girls will be sending 17 individuals in 13 different events to Friday's sectional meet in Wausau while the boys advanced 20 individuals in 16 events.
Hardisha White won two individual titles Tuesday, in the long jump (16-8) and triple jump (35-6.75), while Alicia Bower (119-4) and Jamie Lindstrom (118-3) finished first and second, respectively, in the discus. The pair also advanced in the shot put, along with teammate Ashley Akey. Lindstrom took second (39-4.75), Bower third (37-0.75) and Akey fourth (32-9.25) to give the Raiders three of the four qualifying spots in the shot put.
Angela Tipp won a regional championship in the 200 meter dash (26.05) and teamed up with Danni Krinke, Erika Tipp and Rachael Saathoff to win a regional title in the 4X100 meter relay (50.73). The same foursome qualified for the sectional by taking third in the 4 X 200 meter relay (1:48.0), while Saathoff also took second in the 100 meter dash (12.79) to move on.
Katie Wetzstein took first in the 3200 meter run (12:00.18) and Rachel Zachar was second (12:08.99) to both qualify for the sectional meet. Other second place finishes included Casey Fall in the pole vault (9-6) and the 4X800 meter relay team of Keri Wetzstein, Shannon Hartzell, Zachar and Katie Wetzstein (9:55.84).
Other sectional qualifiers include Hartzell in the 1600 (3rd, 5:36.27), Cori Vought in the 300 hurdles (3rd, 49.8) and Amber Saathoff in the triple jump (32-5).
On the boys' side, Mike Ludgatis, Mitch Patrick, Nick Lubinski, Jacob Ball and the Raiders' 4X800 meter relay team all won regional titles.
Ludgatis took first in the discus (152-7) and second in the shot put (48-1.75), while Patrick won the pole vault (13-0), Lubinski the triple jump (42-7.5) and Ball the 3200 meter run (10:19.04). Ball also teamed up with Luke Wusterbarth, Dan Schloesser and Nicholas Schumacher to win the 4X800 title (8:20.4).
Wusterbarth also finished second in the 1600 meter run (4:38.11) to advance to the sectional meet while Schumacher was second in the 800 (2:01.48).
The 4X200 meter relay team of Tucker Malecha, Tyler Smith, Mark Tully and Mike Meyer moved on by placing second (1:32.89), while Schloesser, Schumacher, Will Johnson and Michael Congdon teamed up to place third in the 4X400 relay (3:38.8).
Smith took second in the 100 meter dash (11.53) and Tully was second in the 300 hurdles (42.36) while Brody Swenson was second in the high jump (6-2) and Mathew Rudquist was second in the 3200 meter run (10:21.15).
Other qualifiers include Congdon in the pole vault (3rd, 12-6), Mathew Weeks in the triple jump (3rd, 41-11.5), Ben Wilen in the high jump (3rd, 6-0), Jenish Bhakta in the long jump (3rd, 19-9), Meyer in the 200 meter dash (4th, 23.24) and Nathan Smits in the 110 high hurdles (4th, 16.17) and 300 meter intermediate hurdles (42.95).
Friday's sectional meet begins at 4 p.m. at Wausau East High School. The top three finishers in each event will move on to the 2009 WIAA Track and Field State Championships June 5-6 in La Crosse.
