Hudson wrestlers dominate in first round

MADISON - Tanner Owens and Kolya Hawksford were easy first round winners at the 69th WIAA State Individual Wrestling Meet Thursday afternoon.

It only took Owens a 1:14 for a quick takedown and pinfall of Milwaukee Bradley Tech's Devondrick Bankston at 160 pounds.

Hawksford was on control the whole way against Ben Hollnagel of Sussex Hamilton, giving up just a late escape for a 9-1 win at 152 pounds. A late takedown in the second put Hawksford up 5-0 and he added to his scores with a takedown and two-point nearfall in the third.

Both wrestlers will wrestle in this evening's Division 1 quarterfinals. Hawksford will face Waukesha South's Kyle Johnson, a 40-8 senior who his first match by 10-2 major decision over Milwaukee Bradley Tech's Mahamoud Fall while Owens will take on Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln's Jake Raflik (Sr., 36-2), who won his first round match over Wilhelm Felhaber of Nicolet by a 25-10 technical fall.
