A group of young Hudson hockey players will travel to Hachinohe, Japan, for the 2009 Friendship Tournament April 24 - May 8.

The international tournament takes place every two years and returns to Hachinohe, the city where it all started, for its 20th anniversary this year. Teams from Hudson have participated in the tournament all over the world since 2003. The tournament promotes friendship and cultural exchange through hockey.

Each local youngster will be paired up with a player from the team and will live with a host family during the tournament to learn about Japanese culture and family life.

The team, consisting of local 11-14 year-old boys and girls, will take gifts representing the St. Croix Valley to share with the host families, and will be promoting Hudson as the location for the 2011 Friendship Tournament.
