Hudson's Jason Hawksford wins Wisconsin Junior B.A.S.S. fishing championship

Hudson's Jason Hawksford caught five bass, which totaled 12.99 pounds, to win the Wisconsin B.A.S.S. Federation 15-18 age group state championship.

Forty-two young fishermen from Wisconsin and northern Illinois came together to fish the St. Croix River on Saturday to compete for the state title in three age groups.

Hawksford caught five fish, which weighed netted a total weight of 12.99 pounds. Tyler Miller of Prescott placed second in the 15-18 age group and Pat Bowers of Hudson took third in the 15-18 age class.

The 11-14 age category was also won by a local fisherman. Lake Anderson of Woodville caught his limit of five bass and his total of 11.50 pounds won the class by more than four pounds.

The winner in the 10-and-under age class was Daniel Salas of Prairie View, Ill., who caught five fish that totaled 9.48 pounds.

Jordan Anderson of Prescott earned the honor for the biggest fish of the tournament, catching a 3.91 pound smallmouth bass.

Ninety-three fish were caught by the 42 competitors who took part in the state tournament.

The tournament was hosted by the Indianhead Junior Bassmasters fishing club of New Richmond.
