Hunter safety offered at Somerset
Young people in the St. Croix Valley area interested in hunting and recreational shooting are invited to enroll in a certified Wisconsin Hunter Education course to be held at the Somerset Middle School.
Suggested age for anyone interested in enrolling in this course is 12 years of age but adults are also welcome. A person does not need to be a Wisconsin resident to enroll.
Registration is Tuesday, Sept. 7, only and late enrollment is not accepted. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting on Sept. 7 and ending on Thursday, Oct. 14. Field Day is Saturday, Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The registration fee is $10. A parent or legal guardian is required to attend the registration and orientation with any minor student to sign the state required enrollment forms. Class size is limited to 50 students and enrollment is on a first in line, first registered basis. Pre-registration or on-line registration is not available.
All students are required to obtain a Wisconsin DNR customer ID# as part of the course graduation criteria and students must provide this number to the instructors during registration. Students may obtain a Wisconsin DNR customer ID# by calli ng (888) 936-7463 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. or by visiting the DNR Service Center in Baldwin.
Any parent who would like to enroll a child with special needs is asked to call the lead instructor at least two weeks in advance of the course start date in order to arrange for special needs accommodations.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources certified hunter education instructors teach this course.
