Hunters reminded to leave firewood at home
If you're setting up a deer camp, leave the firewood at home.
Wisconsin still has restrictions on the movement of firewood, because the tree-killing emerald ash borer often travels in wood.
Officials say it's common for hunters to haul firewood to their deer camps and the gun deer season begins in eight days.
The Agriculture Department says hardwoods cannot be moved from 11 counties with quarantines unless a dealer certifies the wood as being healthy.
The quarantines are in Brown, Crawford, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Vernon, Washington and Waukesha counties -- close to where the ash borer has been spotted.
The DNR also has restrictions on moving firewood.
And in any case, it's against the law to bring it in from out of state.
