I-94 crash injures calves
Two calves escaped and several were injured in a semi-truck crash along Interstate 94 on Thursday, April 4.
The Wisconsin State Patrol was called to the scene of a semi rollover near the westbound lane of I-94 at the State Trunk Highway 29 exit near Elk Mound in Dunn County at about 10:54 p.m.
Keith Spartz, 34, Wilmont, Minn., was driving his semi onto I-94 from Highway 29 when he struck a guard rail and overturned the rig and its trailer. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The semi was transporting 185 calves. Of the 185 calves, two escaped but were eventually caught.
The owner of the semi unit transferred the healthy calves onto another trailer. Some of the animals had to be euthanized due to the injuries
sustained in the crash.
Assisting agencies included Dunn County Sheriff.
The accident remains under investigation.
