This month iNails and Spa opened to the delight of new customers. The name, a take-off on the popular iPhone brand, gives you a hint that it is more than a traditional shop. The spa relates more to the idea of a PediSpa than the common idea of facials, etc.

Located in the corner of the U.S. Bank Building, with windows on two sides, the front area of the shop is dedicated to manicure services with nine stations. The next room holds 10 pedicure stations, with massaging chairs and whirlpool footbaths. It holds the promise of a place where one can truly relax with music and services, such as sea salt scrub, hot towel, hot oil and a mud mask. All are designed to send your feet home feeling brand new.

Thuy Nguyen, the owner of iNails and Spa -- you may call her Angie -- immigrated from Vietnam to St. Cloud, Minn., in 1994 at the age of 21. She arrived with her parents and her siblings. After attending college for two years she went to work for her sister, who having graduated from cosmetology school had started her own nail salon in St. Cloud. Showing a head for business, Thuy (who also went to cosmetology school) opened her own salon in Wilmar which she operated from 2004 to 2011. In the meantime she married and moved to Bloomington. She commuted to Wilmar until the shop closed. The couple now has two daughters ages 3 and 1 ½. Her husband owns a hair salon in Minneapolis.

Thuy explained that Nguyen is a very common name in Vietnam. “When in school there 80 percent of the students will have same name.”

After vacationing in Hudson, Thuy realized it was the place she wanted to open a new shop.

“I like this town very much, that is why I am here,” said Thuy. iNails and Spa opened on Aug. 6.

“We want the customer to be satisfied and part of that is emphasizing sanitation and cleanliness.”

Their list of manicure services is long and includes, gel, shellac, acrylic and more.

“We welcome gentlemen as well,” said Thuy. “In larger cities, it is quite common for not only women but men to have manicures.”

Working with her, are Thuy Lee, a best friend from Northfield and Lan Nguyen, who is also from Bloomington. Both are cosmetology school graduates.

iNails and Spa is open from Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (715) 381-6818 or stop in.
