Inaugural Wildcat Hall of Fame induction Friday - still time to make golf, dinner reservations

History will be made Friday at Kilkarney Hills Golf Course when the River Falls High School Wildcat Hall of Fame welcomes its inaugural class of inductees.


Fourteen individuals will be inducted in categories that include Athlete, Coach, Distinguished Citizen and Legacy. Sponsored by the River Falls High School Pep Club, the event will be an opportunity for alumni to reunite and acknowledge the successes of the RFHS community.

The day will begin with the Wildcat Open Golf Tournament at noon, followed by the Hall of Fame Dinner Banquet at 6 p.m.

Last minute reservations can still be made by contacting RFHS Pep Club advisor Steve Trudeau at 651-214-4431. Cost for golf and dinner is $80 per person, or $320 per foursome, while the cost to attend the banquet, induction ceremony and social is $20 per person. Proceeds will go towards a permanent Hall of Fame display case at the high school.

The Wildcat Hall of Fame Inaugural Class of 2011 includes athletes DeWayne Benedict (Class of 1965), Paul Cudd, Jr. (Class of 1971), Steve Farley (Class of 1977), Paul Wehking (Class of 1983), Brenda (Johnson) Simone (Class of 1986), Kate Peterson Abiad (Class of 1987), Karyn Bye Dietz (Class of 1989) and Kevin Black (Class of 1998).

Coaches in the inaugural class include Deb Timmerman and Ron Wunrow, while Grant Hanson and Kirby Symes will be inducted as Distinguished Citizens. The Distinguished Citizen category is for persons who have made outstanding contributions to the River Falls School District or society as a whole.

The Legacy category, for those who meet induction criteria prior to the last 50 years, will include Red Dawson (Class of 1924) and Roger Kuss (Class of 1949).

Registration for the Wildcat Open Golf Tournament will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. The social hour will start at 5 p.m. with the induction ceremonies and banquet set for 6 p.m. Live music by the Chris Silver Band will follow the banquet.
