Joan Wilburn, 80
Joan McDiarmid Wilburn, age 80, passed away in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
Joan was born in Cumberland, Wis., Oct. 5, 1932, and was the daughter of Ben and Iola McDiarmid of Hudson. Joan graduated from Hudson High School in the early '50s. Immediately upon graduation, she enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Texas, where she spent her entire tour of duty. Joan met and married her husband, Thomas Roach, while in the military. She enjoyed traveling and saw a great deal of the world when he changed duty stations during his 20+ years in the service. Joan's second marriage was to Merle Wilburn of Alice, Texas. They also spent many years traveling until they retired in La Grange, Texas. Following the death of her second husband, Joan moved to Arlington to be close to her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Iola; her sister Rachel McDiarmid; and both her husbands, Thomas Roach and Merle Wilburn.
Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Gaylen Capps of Arlington; her son, Larry Roach of Marine on St. Croix, Minn.; grandchildren, Brandon and Phillip Roach; her sister and brother-in-law Gurtie and Stanley Berkner of Lake St. Croix Beach, Minn.; two nephews, Alan and Karl Berkner; Karl's wife, Joella, and their son, Kaspian. Interment was at Willow River Cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15.
