Juvenile admits to Willow River dumpster fire
A 13-year-old boy has admitted to starting a fire in a dumpster outside Willow River Elementary School on Sept. 28.
According to the Hudson Police Department, the boy has allegedly also admitted to committing two burglaries as well.
The case has been referred to juvenile court.
The fire was started around 5 p.m. in the recycling dumpster which is located at the rear of the building on Fifth Street. There was no fire damage to the school but smoke did enter through the ventilation system and students in two classrooms had to be relocated to other areas of the school for a week while cleanup was conducted.
The cost of the cleanup was estimated at about $28,000 according to Tim Erickson, director of financial services for the school district. Erickson said that most of the cost will be covered by insurance.
