Ken Johnson is grand marshal of Booster Days 2014
Around 15 years ago, Ken Johnson moved to Hudson to be closer to his brother and family, and along the way found a passion in helping kids and volunteering in his new community.
Johnson started out by saying, “I’m a worker, not a talker.” He’s one of those people who would rather get the job done, then talk about why he’s doing it.
He works hard when nobody is watching, spending hours building dugouts on weekday afternoons, along with working on countless other construction and equipment projects. President of the Boosters, Tom Smith, commented on Johnson’s ability to get the job done so fast and so well by saying, “it’s like magic.”
The strong work ethic and passion for volunteering is the reason why Johnson was named the Grand Marshal of the 2014 Hudson Booster Days.
Every year, the Boosters nominate a Booster member who has contributed greatly to the club. Johnson coaches youth baseball and football, and is the equipment manager for both. One thing that Johnson does to help out is by being there when called to fix helmets, bats, etc. to make sure the coaches and teams are working efficiently.
“I feel honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshal,” Johnson said. He says the Grand Marshal title is nothing he would ever campaign for, and he feels appreciated by the Booster members, volunteers, and athletes for picking him.
Johnson who is originally from Superior moved to Hudson in 1999. He got into volunteering for the Boosters through his brother, Duane, and sister in-law, Trish’s two kids Alex and Patrick who were both heavily involved in the Booster program with softball and baseball.
He enjoys being a part of the organization and volunteering because of the civic involvement, being able to hang out with the guys, and working hard for a good cause. At this years’ Booster Days, Johnson will be heavily involved by doing security, setting up and cleaning up, being a part of the planning, and bingo.
“We always have a lot of different projects going on,” Johnson said, “and we’re always having a lot of fun.”
Say “hi!” to this year’s Grand Marshal, on Saturday July 5, at Booster Days. He will be the showcase of the Booster Day parade on Second Street at 11 am.
