He was drafted into the Army in 1945. He served in Occupational Duty with the rank of Corporal T (5). After his service to our country, he attended Central College in Pella, Iowa, and the River Falls State Teacher's College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. He was a life long member of the First Reformed Church where he served as deacon, elder, Sunday School Teacher, as well as various committees such as Mission Committee and Friendly Class. He was very active within the community where he served 56 years as Baldwin town board clerk, helped serve community dinners, and was an active member of the Baldwin Historical Society.

He cherished his family, raising his children, and spending time with his grandchildren always put a smile on his face. His passion for family history and genealogy brought him great joy. Music was a big part of Ken's life. He loved singing in his high school choir, the church choir, and harmonizing with the Dutch Masters. Furthermore, he greatly enjoyed photography where he captured many important events in both life and nature.
