Kent R. Wolff, 67
Kent R. Wolff, age 67, of Hudson, (former owner of the Village Inn), died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 2, at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Kent was born on Sept. 9, 1946, in Eureka, S.D.; the son of Rueben "Pete" and Virginia (Baumann) Wolff. He attended school in Eureka prior to moving to Hudson in his sophomore year. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1964. As a young man, he began working for his dad at Wolff Distributing in Hudson. He became a pop and beer distributor for St. Croix, Dunn, Pierce, and Polk Counties. He loved his routes and the friendships he created.
On Feb. 24, 1968, he was united in marriage to Peggy Smith, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. This union would be further blessed with three children: Craig, Stacey, and Molly.
In 1981, his father sold Wolff Distributing. The following year, he purchased the L & M Bar from Terry Sockness and re-named it the Village Inn. Like any new tavern owner, he cleaned, tended bar, and bussed tables. He loved his customers and making them feel at home. His profound love of the Green Bay Packers inspired him to have one of the very first satellites in the business; all so he could bring you the Packers play-by-play. The Village Inn quickly came to be the place for the best burgers and place to catch the Packers game. Kent also was known to sponsor bus trips to Lambeau Field or the Metrodome to cheer on the Pack or the Badgers.
Outside of work, he thoroughly enjoyed his trips to see his 'second family' in South Dakota. He loved visiting friends and hunting/fishing with them. He was a proud member of the Hudson Boosters Club, and was a mainstay along with Tom Evenson in lighting the annual fireworks off the Dike Road. He loved being at home too; spending time with Peg and having the family over, especially the grandchildren. His yard was always in tip top shape and his vegetable garden was the envy of all the neighbors and friends. Kent will be remembered as a standup man who would give you the shirt off his back.
Kent will remain in the hearts of his best friend and wife, Peg; daughters, Stacey (Eric) Larson, and Molly (Robert) Callahan; daughter-in-law, Lisa (Mike) Sicard; grandchildren, Samantha, Trevor, Michael, Matthew, and Joey; and his sister, Penny (Denny) Shafer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Craig.
A Celebration of Life for Kent Wolff will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
Memorials are preferred and will be used for organizations such as Adoray Hospice or the donor's choice.
To pay respect to Kent's love for the green and gold, please wear Green Bay Packer attire to his gathering.
