Kids fishing contest at Willow River Saturday morning
Willow River State Park is hosting a kids fishing contest on Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m.-noon at the park. Children ages 6 and under start fishing at 9 a.m.; children ages 7-9 start fishing at 10 a.m., and children ages 10-12 start fishing at 11 a.m. Entry fee for the contest is $1 per child and prizes are awarded for the biggest fish, most fish, and smallest fish. Every child is also given a goodie bag for participating. Fishing poles or bait will be provided both of those for children who need it. Fishing mentors are also available for help. Vehicle fees apply for admission to the park.
The following naturalist classes are being offered at the Nature Center:
—Preschool age classes are July 30 and 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 plus vehicle admission into the park. Activities include playing games outside on July 30 and 31.
—Kindergarten through first-grade classes are Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 plus vehicle admission into the park. The class will play outdoor games.
—First-third grade classes are Aug. 6-8 from 9 a.m. to noon. Each three day class is $30/child (or $10/day) plus vehicle admission into the park. August classes include camping games.
—First through third-grade classes include July 23-25 and Aug. 13-15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Each three-day class is $30/child (or $10/day) plus vehicle admission into the park. River Life is July 23-25 and Outdoor Recreation is Aug. 13-15.
