Koehler wins all-around at sectional, 4 Hudson gymnasts headed to state
Freshman Olivia Koehler won the sectional all-around title last Friday in Eau Claire, senior McKenna Daulton and sophomore Gabby Hughes swept the top two spots on the balance beam, and sophomore Maddie Nelson took fourth on the uneven bars to all qualify for the WIAA State Gymnastics Championships this Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.
Hudson just missed advancing to state as a team, finishing third at the sectional with a team score of 138.1. The top two teams, and the top five individuals in each event, moved on as state qualifiers.
Hudson had six top-five finishes spread out over four individuals, including Koehler’s sectional championship in the all-around.
Koehler took second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.05 and was fifth in the floor exercise with 9.25 while adding scores of 8.75 on the vault and 8.575 on the balance beam. Her all-around score of 35.625 was one-tenth of a point better than second place Miranda Severin of Eau Claire.
Daulton won the sectional title on the balance beam with a score of 8.95 while Hughes scored 8.8 to finish runner-up.
Nelson placed fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.925 to punch her ticket to state.
Senior Maddy Rohde posted an eighth place score of 8.6 on bars and Daulton finished tenth on the floor with a 9.05 while sophomore Amira Tobasi contributed a score of 8.225 on the floor and sophomore Madi Wisse turned in a score of 8.5 on the vault.
The WIAA State Gymnastics Championships will take place this Saturday, March 8, at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. March-in is at 10:40 a.m. with competition beginning at 11:10 a.m.
