Lake Mallalieu bridge repairs begin

A more than two-month project to put a new concrete surface on the Lake Mallalieu bridge started Monday morning.

Lunda Construction of Black River Falls is the principal contractor for the work scheduled to be completed by July 1.

The bridge will remain open to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the project.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation project leader Kathleen Currie said the work will be done in two halves.

The east side of bridge is currently closed while workers mill off the top two or three inches of deck concrete and replace it with new concrete.

Full-depth deck repairs will also be completed where needed. Also, new guard rails will be installed.

When the work is done on the east side, the west side will be resurfaced.

The traffic lanes will be narrowed to 10 feet during the project.
