Last district contract settled
The longest labor negotiation in recent years between the Hudson School District and one of its bargaining units came to an end last week when the Board of Education ratified a new contract with district regular, special education, media and health assistants and child nutrition employees.
The contract period covers 2009-10 and 2010-11. Like the rest of district employees, this group received no increase on the wage schedule last school year. For 2010-2011, there will be no increase on the wage schedule from July to December but a 4 percent increase on the schedule will become effective on Jan. 1, 2011.
Director of Financial Services Tim Erickson said, "Due to the increase per cell in 2010-2011 taking place for the last half of the school year only, the effective increase is slightly more than 2 percent in total over the 2-year period of the contract
The only dissenting vote on the board was from Mark Kaisersatt who said he did not believe a pay raise of this level is appropriate considering the economic conditions taxpayers in the district are experiencing.
Union leader Jill Kivi thanked the board and the negotiating team for their efforts to reaching an agreement.
