LeRoy's River Minstrels to play at the park
LeRoy Larson and his band, the River Minstrels, will be performing at the Lakefront band shell on June 21 as part of the 2012 Concerts in the Park Series presented by the city of Hudson.
The band plays a vast array of music. Their selections include riverboat music, Dixieland, jazz, ragtime, dance, sing-a-long, and fun party music. The band has played at popular venues such as the Taste of Minnesota and the Mall of America, while also appearing on the television stations WCCO and KSTP in the cities. They have been active on the airwaves, playing on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion." The group will play later in the summer at the Minnesota State Fair.
The group has released three CDs since coming together over four decades ago. The band utilizes the clarinet, hi-hat, soprano sax, tenor banjo, trumpet, tuba, vocals, and the washboard. The size of the group can vary from just Larsen to up to six members.
Larsen, the band's producer, is a banjoist that holds two music education degrees. Larsen claims to have a wide repertory that is tailored to the audience.
This will be the second week of the concert series down at the Lakefront. All concerts this summer are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
