Letter: Candidate has concerns
Since I am running for the School Board I receive the same packet of information that the sitting School Board gets. In the last packet were the numbers for the demographic study done for the school district. Most of the information was based on conjecture and former growth in the district and also accounted for an increase in birth, migration into the district and a decrease in the housing market.
This paper just gave the big number page! Who knows if the study took into account the full depth of the housing, cost of living and tax situation in the district that will keep people from moving to or staying in the district. Another page of the study has the actual numbers of students in the district and it shows presently the four classes of students in the high school are the highest for the next 10 years. We do not need a new high school now! We need to wait to see how the next few years play out.
On another note, I received a letter from the local teachers union reps to be interviewed.
It was stated in the letter they represent 300 teachers and would like to know my views.
I have declined because I believe anyone elected to the School Board should not and cannot have any special interests involved in how the school system is run.
