Letter: Disc golf group forms
I want to express my appreciation to the many people who took the time to come to City Hall last month to show their support for Frisbee (disc) golf in Hudson. I especially want to acknowledge "super-citizen" Steve Wilcox of the Hudson Daybreak Rotary club who spoke in favor of it as well as council members Lee Wyland and John Hoggatt. We feel it's only a matter of time before we finally get a place to play in Hudson.
Frisbee golf is a fast-growing outdoor activity that is fun to play, good exercise, and inexpensive. Most courses are free to play and located in city or county parks. Wisconsin and Minnesota have about 160 courses each. Worldwide there are some 3,200 courses. Around here, Somerset, River Falls, Menomonie, Eau Claire, Stillwater and Oak Park Heights have courses. Our group is seeking approval for a neighborhood Frisbee golf course in the under-used area of Prospect Park.
Far from being discouraged, we are more pumped up than ever about getting a course in Hudson. Because there is so much enthusiasm, we have decided to form a local disc golf club. Our first meeting to form the club will "tee off" Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. at Dick's Bar. If you're interested in helping to launch the club, please show up. Also we have a Facebook group at Hudson Disc Golf.
