Letter: Upset with county pay
Another case of irresponsible and wasteful spending by our county commissioners. I am referring to the $81,000+ lump bonus they authorized for the county administrators and managers who are at the top of their pay scale and are not eligible for raises. Of course, why should we be surprised? Just another prime example of "fatcats taking care of fatcats."
Our compassionate commissioners feel so sorry for all of these people that they feel they just have to give them a bonus (after all, these poor souls are only receiving an annual salary ranging from $60,000 to $115,000). Why?
Sorry boys, but I can't bleed for them. I'm sure they are all doing a good job, but that is what they are being paid for and being paid very well. With the economic situation we are in, a simple "thank you" for a job well done would have been sufficient.
I am sure all the taxpayers who are struggling to pay their taxes and those who are being forced out of their homes because they can no longer afford to pay their taxes are overjoyed at seeing you waste our tax money this way. There is no way you can sugar-coat your irresponsible action.
I have a challenge for all of the 157 administrators and managers who have received or who will receive the bonus:
How many of you have enough self-respect to say, "Thank you, but no thank you. This money is needed much more someplace else."
It will be interesting to see how many really good administrators and managers we have who will return the money and more interesting to see how many greedy administrators and managers who will keep the money!
I am waiting to see how much our county commissioners (who appear to be sweating over cutting the budget) will be forced to give themselves in increases in salary, bonuses or perks.
