For Shari Stensland, her life changed when her father, Rick Waldschmidt was diagnosed with Type II diabetes.

"My dad was told to eat fewer carbohydrates, limit sugar, exercise more and take medication," said Stensland. "He was also told you will have this the rest of your life."

Stensland and her mother started a journey of research, which two years ago resulted in the founding of Life's 5.

"We discovered that what we found out not only helped dad but was good for any health-conscious person," said Stensland. A healthy life consists of five important points: 1) Nutrition; 2) Exercise; 3) Emotional Well-being; 4) Financial Stability; and 5) Faith.

Life's 5 offers a line of cookies, which is now available at Kowalski's Market, private label supplements and teas as well as books and other products to help guide people on their journey to health when applying the five steps.

"All of the products fall in line with the five key areas," said Erika Cherrier.

The fitness center is offering E-Fit Classes, circuit training, free weights, ellipticals, treadmills, TRX suspension system, kettle bells, yoga/Pilates, free style and boot camps. Also available are nutritionists, personal trainers, counselors and life coaches, financial advisors and Christian leaders.

The fitness center will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Memberships are available, however, if you want to take classes you may purchase a punch card instead of a membership.

"Life's 5 is designed to inform and guide a person to live a healthy life," said Stensland. "My dad is all for it. He is very supportive and motivated because he has lived this first hand and this has worked for him."

The grand opening for Life's 5 Fitness Center is Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food samples, equipment demonstrations are just a couple of the activities available. The center is located at 476 County A, in the same building as St. Croix Valley Cabinetry which is owned by Waldschmidt, who was the inspiration for Stensland's business.

"The doctors all told dad what he could not do," said Stensland. "We found out what he could do. When he goes in for his tests now, there is no sign of diabetes."
