Locals shine at Croixathlon

Over 160 participants crossed the finish line in the sixth annual Croixathlon to benefit Camp St. Croix Saturday, June 25.

The Croixathlon is a sprint distance triathlon held as a fundraiser to support the mission of the 600-acre camp and retreat center just south of Hudson on the bluffs of the St. Croix River. The race is a combined 1/3-mile swim in the St. Croix River, a 15-mile bike ride on rolling county roads, and a three-mile trail run.

Kurt Becker of Afton, Minn., was the overall winner with a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes, 22 seconds. Rob Duijndam of Falcon Heights was second in 1:11:09.

Hudson's Trent Johnson was the top local finisher, placing fifth with a time of 1:16:17, while John Sosniecki of River Falls was seventh in 1:18:34.

Cheryl Barker of Hudson won the women's competition with a time of 1:21:38 while Megan Westhoff of Roberts was third in 1:24:33 and Julie Gujer of River Falls finished sixth in 1:30:30.

Anne Salamone of Hudson won the women's age 25-29 division with a time of 1:32:09 while Hudson's Carolyn Milbrath took the women's age 50-54 division in 1:31:30. Hudson's Brian Zeuli won the men's age 30-34 group in 1:12:06.

David Holden of North Hudson was the men's Elite Division winner with a time of 1:06:20, while Cathy Ynstead of Apple Valley, Minn., won the women's Elite race in 1:14:43.

In the relay competition, Tim Weller, Isaac Dzubay and Tom Ramquist of River Falls took first place with a combined time of 1:18:50.
