Marian L. Barker, 96

Marian L. Barker, age 96, of North Hudson, passed away Nov. 10, at the Hudson Hospital.

Marian was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Nye, Wis.; one of ten children to John and Gina (Haugeland) Johnson. Marian graduated from Hudson High School. She was united in marriage to Herbert Barker on June 24, 1939, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Paul. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Jack and Terrance.

Marian worked as a Telephone Operator for Wisconsin Bell/AT&T for 34 years, until her retirement in 1975. After her retirement, Marian and Herbert enjoyed many winters at their home in Sun City, Ariz. Most important to Marian was her family, she especially cherished her time with her sons, grandchildren, and sisters. She loved welcoming others into her home, had a generous heart ensuring everyone was well fed and cared for, and especially enjoyed caring for her pet dogs and birds. Marian found joy in going out to eat, playing bingo, doing yard work, and decorating for the holidays.

Marian will remain in the hearts of her son Jack (Suzanne) of Amery, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Vicki (Barker) Hieb; grandchildren: Melissa Dudrey, Terry Alan Barker, Billie Jo (Tad) Armstrong, and Christopher (Jessica Weeks) Barker; 6 step grandchildren: Lisa (Brian) Neuberger, Ross (Karen) Goulette, Ryan (Lisa) Goulette, Jay Fletch, Jennifer Fletch, and Brandon (Jennifer Burke) Fletch; many great- grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; sister, Mavis Siegel of Hudson; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; son Terrance; great-granddaughter, Callie; 3 brothers, Gordon, Curtis, and Maynard; and 5 sisters: Josephine, Florence, Violet, Delores, and Bette.

A visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St., Hudson. Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St., Hudson, with Pastor Bob Bipes officiating. Interment will take place at Willow River Cemetery of Hudson.
