Missing Kinni tubers found by MSP helicopter early Monday
A pair of St. Paul men who apparently got waylaid on the tubing trip down the Kinnickinnic River late Sunday, were found by a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter early Monday and led to safety by park rangers.
James Miller, 21, and Alex Sperry, 22, were checked out by medics from the River Falls Area Ambulance service at the scene sometime after 1 a.m., Monday, then released to waiting friends.
Deputy Joe Smith with the Pierce County Sheriff's Dept. said dispatchers received a call from rangers at Kinnickinnic State Park just before 11 p.m., Sunday, that the men were missing and believed to be upstream from the park.
Once the airborne trooper had located the tubers at 12:55 a.m., he directed rangers to the area and they helped the men was out to an access point.
Also assisting deputies in the town of Clifton incident were River Falls police and several neighboring landowners, Smith said.
