Missing soldier found dead in Chippewa County forest
A soldier missing for 10 days was found dead last night in the Chippewa County Forest.
An autopsy is planned today to determine how Russell Plummer, 20, of Cornell died.
Relatives were looking for Plummer in the forest when they found his car Monday afternoon. Sheriff's deputies later found the body about 30-40 yards from the vehicle.
Officers were searching the forest in a plane earlier in the day, close to where the car was last seen.
Plummer was a National Guard soldier who returned home from a training session in Maryland on Oct. 21.
He normally stayed with friends when he came home, but when he failed to show up for Guard duty last weekend, his mother reported him missing.
Officials said he had not used his cell phone or bank cards since Nov. 1.
