More details released in Erickson deaths
More information has been released regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide deaths of Claire and Betty Lou Erickson.
Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen said the preliminary autopsy report was released Tuesday, March 31.
Jensen said the report, done by the Ramsey County (Minn.) Medical Examiner, indicated that Claire Erickson, 83, shot his wife, Betty Lou, 81, and then died himself of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Jensen said a 45-caliber automatic handgun was used in the incident and was recovered at the scene. Although the time of the incident has yet to be determined, Jensen said he believed it took place in the early-morning hours of March 24. Both victims were found in bed at their home on Crest View drive. They had just returned from Florida on the evening of March 23.
Both victims had gunshot wounds to the head. Jensen said there was no suicide note at the scene.
The bodies were discovered at the Erickson home on the morning of March 24 by Erickson's daughter, Mimi, and her husband, Jim Kron.
"This is a provisional report," Jensen said. "A more extensive autopsy report will come later."
