Motorist reports seeing someone jump from St. Croix River bridge Sunday night
Authorities searched for a body beneath the St. Croix River bridge at Hudson Sunday night after a motorist on a cell phone reported seeing someone jump from the bridge.
Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen said the call came in just before 10 p.m. from a couple who were driving over the bridge. They thought they saw an individual jump from outside the railing.
The Hudson Police and St. Croix EMS boat, as well as the Hudson Fire Department boat, both equipped with powerful spotlights, were used to search the river. No one was found.
Jensen said police officers checked on vehicles parked on the Wisconsin and Minnesota sides of the river, but the checks didn't turn up any missing persons.
The river search was halted at about 1:20 a.m. Monday, Jensen indicated.
He said the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department may conduct a recovery operation Monday to see if that turns up a body.
