As has been typical, there were plenty of 6-0 and 6-1 sets going around.

"This was a nice win for the Raiders, upping our conference record to 3-0. The entire team played well," said Coach Jon Hilding. "Zach Blum played a very smart match, as did Joe Hanson." Their wins were 6-3, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.

"Ryan Hanes was aggressive in his shot selection and did well," Hilding said, adding that his winning score was 6-1, 6-1. "James Meincke continued to play steady at 4 singles and notched another win." He only dropped a single game on the day.

"Doubles play was again solid. John Dahl and Josh Szyman played good solid tennis," Hilding said, noting that they blanked their opponents. "Stephen Hilding and Nick Yannarelly were very impressive and David Sjoberg and Eric Kromer were dominating in 3 doubles position." Those scores were 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-2.

On Saturday, the tennis squad participated in the Old Abe Sweet Sixteen Tournament in Eau Claire. This tournament features teams from western Wisconsin as well as the Twin Cities area. "This tournament is always intense competition and we finished near the middle of the pack. We did not have any top finishers, but the boys gained valuable experience, which should serve them well in the end-of-season tournaments," Hilding said.

"Centennial had a very strong team but the Raiders played well," he noted. "Our doubles play was again strong with the No. 2 team of Nick Yannarelly and Stephen Hilding winning a close match." That score was 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.

"Also, the No. 1 and 3 teams were very competitive," Hilding said. The top-seeded duo for the Raiders lost in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 3-6, while Brad Youderian and Will Gaumitz dropped their contest 3-6, 2-6.

"Centennial's singles lineup was outstanding and James Meincke is to be commended for a nice win at 4 singles," Hilding said. That was 6-2, 7-5.

These are the rest of the scores: Blum lost to Scott Sundstrom 0-6, 0-6, Hanson dropped his match to Austin Anderson 0-6, 1-6, and Hanes made it a match before losing to Kevin Jadryminski 2-6, 3-6.

Hudson was scheduled to face Eau Claire North on Tuesday, May 6, travel to Woodbury on Thursday, May 8, to Memorial on Friday, May 9, and to the Big Rivers Conference tournament on Saturday, May 10.
