New exhibitions at the Phipps, opening reception Oct. 18
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

A series of exhibitions featuring needle-felted fiber and mixed media installation by Felice Amato of Madison and St. Paul; a photography exhibit by Dirk Anschutz of New York, organized by Upstream Arts of Minneapolis; assemblage sculpture by Gary and MaryAnn Carlson of Rush City, Minn.; ceramic vessels and sculpture by Andrea Leila Denecke of Scandia, Minn.; drawings and paintings by Patrick Kemal Pryor of Minneapolis; and mixed media figurative work by Sally Roscoe of Minneapolis will be on view Oct. 18 through Nov. 17 in The Galleries of The Phipps Center for the Arts.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Artists will be present and hors d’oeuvres will be served at this free event, which is open to the public. An artist talk by Denecke will be held in the Atrium Gallery starting at 6 p.m. that evening.

The exhibit by Denecke is the inaugural show organized in partnership with Northern Clay Center (NCC) in Minneapolis. NCC and The Phipps have joined forces on a three-year exhibition partnership aimed at increasing the profile of ceramic artists located throughout the lower St. Croix Valley watershed. This cross-state collaboration will feature two to three ceramic artists annually in the Atrium Gallery at The Phipps. Featured artists will present an artist talk prior to the opening reception for their show, and the three artists participating in the first year of this partnership, Denecke, S.C. Rolf, and Willem Gebben, will present a half-day workshop at The Phipps on Jan. 25 at which they will discuss their work and demonstrate their working process.

Galleries hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday noon to 4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
