New finance officer takes over July 9
Tabatha Hansen is already on the job at night and weekends
Tabatha Hansen is in the process of relocating to the area in preparation for taking over as the new finance director for St. Croix County. The Black River Falls resident officially takes the helm July 9.
The St. Croix County Board of Supervisors approved her selection at its June 5 regular meeting.
"I am very excited to be the new finance director of St. Croix County. This is a very beautiful county and I'm joining a great team," said Hansen, 32, in an email response last week.
Although her official start is some three weeks in the future, Hansen has been putting her time in the new job on nights and Sundays, she said during a telephone conversation Tuesday morning.
"It's important to me to gain understanding of the budget and where it is," she said.
Hansen is leaving a relatively new job as business analyst for the La Crosse County Human Services Department she took over in May. She said the St. Croix County job was a move up where she could, "better apply my skills."
"My strength is in numbers," she said.
Hansen said she applied for the St. Croix County job in March but backed out, then several people recommended that Administrator Pat Thompson make another bid for her services.
She has nine years of experience in county government including financial services manager in the Jackson County Department of Health and Human Services from March 2007 to May 2012.
Hansen is a native of Black River Falls where she graduated from high school in 1998. She earned a bachelor's degree from UW-Eau Claire in business administration and a certificate in information technology in December 2002.
She and her husband, Bjorn, have two children, daughter Natalie, 6, and son Henrik, 3.
"We have an accepted offer on a house," she said while waiting out the details of closing on the sale.
