A New Richmond man has been convicted of possession of child pornography.

Lawrence Wayne Mattison, 60, 1498 County GG, pleaded no contest to one count of possession of child pornography on July 6.

Judge Edward F. Vlack ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing hearing for Sept. 27 at 10 a.m.

Additional charges of exposing genitals and sexual assault of a child were dismissed, but will be read into the record for purposes of restitution.

The criminal complaint said sheriff's deputies responded to a child sex assault complaint on Feb. 15, 2005, and seized a computer and discs from Mattison's residence that contained suspected child pornography.

The complaint said Mattison was behaving in an unusual manner when officers arrived, and emergency detention was ordered. The court accepted a doctor's report and declared Mattison competent to proceed at the July 6 hearing.
